The logic module uses this switch to determine if the transmission is in gear for vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions. If the transmission is park or neutral, the logic module will set the AIS motor to target idle speed. Otherwise, it will open the AIS to compensate for the load on the engine that is generated by the transmission. This switch is also used in the starter relay circuit to prevent the engine from starting if it is not in park or neutral (in gear).
